General Meetings: Fourth Tuesday – February to June and September to November for approximately 1½ to 2 hours per meeting.
The agenda for our general meetings is deliberately light on business affairs and we try to include items of interest to as many of our members as possible. Our central effort is placed on the Parlour Show. This is a mini-flower show that reflects the season of the year and our members’ pride in their houseplants and gardens. It is commented on, so all can learn.
Different speakers from within the membership give presentations on any of the following: “Flower of the Month”: a book that is of interest from the Library, a short talk and demonstration of floral arranging; or question and answer discussion on various gardening subjects.
After a social break for refreshment we present an invited speaker generally from outside the club. This can be simplified technical presentation or a subject of general interest. We are always open to suggestions for suitable speakers.
Seasonally, we hold a potluck picnic in July (in recent years in Coldstream Park) and at Christmas time we enjoy an informal awards dinner.
We are trying to improve continually on what has been said of us “We are the best kept secret in Vernon”.
